Common Questions

Clear answers about how the Finnish Trust Network works and what teams can enable.

Does it…

Let’s talk

Does it cover all major Finnish eIDs?

Yes. FTN brings together the bank IDs of Finland’s main banks, including Nordea, OP, Danske Bank, Aktia, S-Bank, Säästöpankki, POP Bank, OmaSP, and Bank of Åland, as well as Mobiilivarmenne from mobile operators DNA, Elisa, and Telia.

Does it require separate contracts with each bank?

No. FTN was created so service providers can access multiple identity providers through one contract and one integration. G2 Risk Solutions provides that single point of access, so you do not need agreements or technical integrations with individual banks.

Does it provide strong electronic identification?

Yes. FTN eIDs meet the requirements for strong electronic identification under Finnish law, corresponding to the eIDAS Substantial assurance level. The network is supervised by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency, Traficom.

Does it use multi-factor authentication?

Yes. Strong electronic identification in Finland must combine at least two authentication factors, such as a password or PIN together with a code list, mobile app, or SIM card. Whether a login also meets PSD2 strong customer authentication requirements depends on your use case.

Did FTN replace TUPAS?

Yes. FTN was established by law on 1 May 2017. It replaced TUPAS, the bank-run identification service that required separate contracts and integrations with each bank, which could no longer be used for strong electronic identification after 30 September 2019.
